Learn how to add sound to animation, moving picture and film utilising industry know how. Upon completion of the course you will be competent in creating your own sound effects using operator & Ableton’s on board audio effects. You will also learn the art of recording foley (your own sound effects) by thinking outside the box. This course will give you all you need to finish the sound scale for your own piece.

It is suitable for anyone wanting to learn more about sound, anyone pursuing a career as a sound designer, career in radio, editing, film, animation and audio engineering.

WEEK 1

Learn the four most popular ways to build a rhythm track in Live utilising Drum Rack, Impulse, Sampler & Audio Track.

WEEK 2

Perform advanced audio editing in Live’s arrangement view.

WEEK 3

All about EQ

Attenuate offending frequencies within a Kick drum loop

Tastefully utilise the eight band parametric EQ to shape a 909 Cymbal sound

Tastefully utilise the eight band parametric EQ to shape a Synth sound

WEEK 4

All about compression

Learn how to use a compressor & its features

Learn advanced compression technique “Parallel Compression”

WEEK 5

Learn how to warp audio

Learn how to cut, paste & consolidate your own samples in Live’s arrangement window

WEEK 6

Utilise Lives Drum Rack & external MIDI device to trigger samples

Introduction to subtractive synthesis

WEEK 7

Utilise elements of Subtractive synthesis & Live’s operator to create a synth sound

Utilise Live’s I/O’s (Ins & Outs) to record your synth sound out to audio

Utilise Live’s Simpler instrument to trigger your newly created synth sound across a MIDI device

WEEK 8

Utilise elements of subtractive synthesis & Live’s operator to create a Kick & Hi – Hat sample

WEEK 9

Utilise elements of subtractive synthesis & Lives operator to create a Shaker & Snare sample

WEEK 10

Utilise elements of subtractive synthesis & Live’s operator to create a Tom & 808 Bass patch

WEEK 11

Utilise elements of subtractive synthesis & Live’s operator to create a white noise splash

Using Live’s resample feature, record your splash out to be reversed

WEEK 12

Learn how to utilise velocities, automate audio plugins & MIDI map in Live

Take an in depth look at Live’s edit window within the sample control panel

WEEK 13

Learn to import video into live

WEEK 14

Learn how to layer sounds underneath visuals

WEEK 15

Learn how to record your own foley (sound effects) & layer underneath a piece

WEEK 16

Learn how to record your own samples of music and how to resample

WEEK 17

Learn how to mix your piece using EQ, panning, compression & gain staging

WEEK 18

Learn all about mastering: Discover the real secrets & how you can apply elements of mastering to your mix bus

WEEK 19

Finish a short animated piece designing all of your own sounds

WEEK 20

Mix & Master a song utilising stems

At this stage, you’re ready to have your music released on digital streaming platforms such as Spotify, iTunes,Youtube, Soundcloud, Bandcamp and Google Play.
